Ocean Healthcare Torbay 10k: Information
9:04 am - Sunday 27th September - 2020
Ocean Healthcare Torbay 10k is organised by Torbay AC. With thanks to Ocean Healthcare for their generous support of this new event.
Open to competitors aged 15 and over.
Getting there - The postcode for your sat-nav. is: - TQ4 6AG. Please allow plenty of time to get to the start as the seafront roads between Torquay and Paignton will start closing from 7.00 am to give a traffic-free course. Our Race HQ will be in the Runners Village on Paignton Green.
Technical stuff - This race is staged under UKA Rules and will have medical cover provided. The accuracy of the course measurement has been certified by a UKA-approved course measurer.
Timing chip - Your timing chip is built into your race number and is disposable; your number must be attached in accordance with the issued instructions. There will be no other timing system on the day.
Race number - Please insert the requested information on the reverse of your race number, which must then be pinned securely to the front of your vest. You must not cut, fold or otherwise mutilate your race number in any way. Your race number must not be transferred to another runner unless the correct procedure has been followed (see Enter Event). You will not be permitted to finish without an official race number.
The wearing of headphones - Runners could be lapped by the other runners – overtaking from behind. We, therefore, need our runners to be able to hear our marshal’s safety instructions as runners and escort vehicles approach. You will not be able to hear them if you are using headphones – It’s really important that you hear what’s going on around you. In previous years we have had a few problems with runners wearing headphones but after more issues, we have now been advised on safety grounds to prohibit the use of headphones. Anyone using headphones during the event will be disqualified.
Facilities – There will be Baggage and Changing tents, a refreshment area. A massage team from South Devon College will also be on hand to treat you after the race. Toilet facilities will be available at 2 locations on the seafront (public facilities are charged at 30p), but regret that there are no showers so how about a nice dip in the sea to revive you?
Baggage – In advance please use a thick black pen to write your race number on both sides of the tag sent to you then attach it firmly to your bag. You must present your race number to reclaim your bag afterwards. This facility will be staffed throughout the event, but please be aware that we store your belongings entirely at your own risk, so please don’t leave any valuables.
The Start – Will be on the Paignton North Green (the green with the public loos on)- however, is a different side to the pier than the Half Marathon gantry (looking out to sea it is on the left handside). Please line up from 8:45 am.
The Course – One lap course. There will be a managed merge into the 1/2 marathon course. The course will be closed to traffic during the race, but please be alert as to what’s going on around and behind you at all times in case of an emergency. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Distance markers will be in position. There will be 3 drink stations including one at the finish. Along the route, there also are several public toilets at various points.
Medical – Medical personnel will be on duty around the course and also at the finish line. If you or another competitor needs medical attention at any time, please alert the nearest marshal immediately.
The Finish - On the return to Paignton Green keep left past the Pier to the finish line, you will then receive your race T-Shirt and medal.
