27 September 2020
Race Day Information
9:00 am - Sunday 27th September - 2020
Getting there - The postcode for your sat-nav. is: - TQ4 6AG. Please allow plenty of time to get to the start as the seafront roads between Torquay and Paignton will start closing from 7.00 am to give a traffic-free course. Our Race HQ will be in the Runners Village on Paignton Green.
Technical stuff - This race is staged under UKA Rules and will have medical cover provided by United Medical Services The accuracy of the course measurement has been certified by a UKA-approved course measurer.
Timing chip - Your timing chip is built into your race number and is disposable; your number must be attached in accordance with the issued instructions. There will be no other timing system on the day.
Race number - Please insert the requested information on the reverse of your race number, which must then be pinned securely to the front of your vest. You must not cut, fold or otherwise mutilate your race number in any way. Your race number must not be transferred to another runner unless the correct procedure has been followed (see Enter Event). You will not be permitted to finish without an official race number.
The wearing of headphones - Most runners will be lapped by the lead runners – overtaking from behind. We therefore need our runners to be able to hear our marshal’s safety instructions as the lead runners and escort vehicles approach. You will not be able to hear them if you are using headphones – It’s really important that you hear what’s going on around you. In previous years we have had a few problems with runners wearing headphones but after more issues, we have now been advised on safety grounds to prohibit the use of headphones. Anyone using headphones during the event will be disqualified.
Facilities – There will be Baggage and Changing tents, a refreshment area. A massage team from South Devon College will also be on hand to treat you after the race. Toilet facilities will be available at 2 locations on the seafront (public facilities are charged at 30p), but regret that there are no showers so how about a nice dip in the sea to revive you?
Baggage – In advance please use a thick black pen to write your race number on both sides of the tag sent to you then attach it firmly to your bag. You must present your race number to reclaim your bag afterward. This facility will be staffed throughout the event, but please be aware that we store your belongings entirely at your own risk, so please don’t leave any valuables.
The Start – Will be on the Eastern Esplanade near the Pier, please line up from 8:45 am in accordance with your estimated finishing time. Please be honest with yourself when estimating your finishing time - if you line up too far forward, you will get in the way of those who have been more realistic, particularly during the first few miles. The race will start promptly at 9:00 am.
The Course – Two lap course. The course will be closed to traffic during the race, but please be alert as to what’s going on around and behind you at all times in case of an emergency. . Most runners will be lapped by the lead runners – overtaking from behind. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Mile markers will be in position. There will be 6 drink stations including one at the finish. Along the route, there also are several public toilets at various points. We will start dismantling the course after 3 hours.
